PHILADELPHIA — May 5, 2015 — The Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) pulled together – literally – as a team at the seventh annual Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH) Plane Pull event. Marketplace PHL raised $7,410 for the PRMH.
Held on Atlantic Aviation’s tarmac at Philadelphia International Airport, the Plane Pull is a tug-of-war event in which teams compete to see who can pull a plane over a designated distance in the shortest amount of time. Teams competing in the event raise funds for the PRMH to benefit local families in need.
“Our merchants and the Marketplace PHL team have a strong commitment to giving back, and the Plane Pull is one of our favorite traditions,” said Mel Hannah, vice president and general manager of the Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops. “We have a great time ‘pulling for the house’ and supporting local families who need a helping hand.”
Merchants contributed in-kind donations of food and refreshments for participants to enjoy during the event. Participating merchants included Angelina’s Panini Bar, Burrito Elito, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Hudson Group, Le Bus Café, The Paradies Shops, Philly Pretzel Factory, Sweet Flights and Villa Pizza.
A few of Marketplace PHL’s merchants formed their own teams to compete in this year’s event, including Chickie’s and Pete’s, Hudson Group and staff members from Smashburger, Peet’s Coffee and Jamba Juice. These teams raised $9,100, $2,500 and $2,500, respectively.
The PRMH provides a home away from home for families of critically ill children receiving treatment at local hospitals. The group operates two houses in Philadelphia, at Chestnut Street and Erie Street, serving a total of 63 families daily. Founded in 1974 as the very first Ronald McDonald House, PRMH is the model for nearly 300 houses throughout the world.
