PHILADELPHIA MARKETPLACE ANNOUNCES 2018-2019 MERCHANT OF THE YEAR

Chickie’s & Pete’s awarded the coveted title during annual EDGIE Award Ceremony
PHILADELPHIA — Oct. 22, 2019 — Philadelphia Marketplace, the food and shops at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), awarded its Merchant of the Year distinction to Chickie’s & Pete’s (Concourse C) during the 12th annual EDGIE Awards held at Fairmount Water Works. The theme of this year’s event was “Making a Difference.” The MarketPlace PHL team and each and every merchant strive to make a difference every day throughout the airport, in the community and for the environment.

Philadelphia Marketplace’s Cutting EDGE! Program (Excellence Drives Great Experiences!) is designed to motivate and reward restaurants and retailers for providing exemplary customer service to travelers and employees at PHL. Each merchant can earn EDGE! points for exceeding expectations through great customer service, marketing and training. At the end of each quarter, the merchants with the most points are named Merchant of the Quarter, and the merchant with the most points overall at the end of the year is named Merchant of the Year.

Chickie’s & Pete’s took home a $1,000 prize, the EDGE! Trophy and the coveted title of “Merchant of the Year” for 2018-2019. Chickie’s & Pete’s has not only delivered in the area of customer service excellence, but has also excelled in terms of recycling initiatives, donating food to organizations in need, volunteering staff time and talents to fundraiser events, and more. All these factors contributed to winning not only the “Merchant of the Year” trophy, but the “Making a Difference” award as well.

With several locations throughout the airport, Chickie’s & Pete’s is Philadelphia’s sports bar and crab house, combining an easy-going atmosphere with game-day excitement. The classic menu includes its world-famous Crabfries, seafood, sandwiches, pizza, wings and more. The restaurant also provides full bar service to travelers looking to relax before or after their flights.

“We hold our merchants to high standards, and the team at Chickie’s & Pete’s consistently went above and beyond to provide exceptional service to customers this year,” said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. “We congratulate the Chickie’s & Pete’s Concourse C location on receiving the Merchant of the Year title and thank all our merchants for another great year.”

  • Employee of the Year – Marquis Spurgeon of Minute Suites, and Maria Lucia Sulistya of Gachi Sushi & Noodles
  • Marketplace Staff Outstanding Achievement – Tanya Sykes and William Gardiner
  • Making a Difference Award – Chickie’s and Pete’s
  • PHL Leadership Award – Chellie Cameron
