Agency Honored for Work on Behalf of Carnegie Mellon University

Harleysville, Pa. — June 24, 2015 — Hornercom, a top-10 public relations firm in the Philadelphia area, has been named a 2015 Silver Anvil Award winner by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The Silver Anvil is the public relations industry’s top national honor.

The agency was recognized in the Events and Observances, Seven Days or Fewer category for its campaign, “Carnegie Mellon University: First, Exclusive Higher Education Partner of the Tony Awards.” Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), located in Pittsburgh, Pa., is a global research university with world-class arts and technology programs, cross-discipline collaboration and innovative leadership in education.

The Silver Anvil Award has served as the PR industry’s most distinguished honor for more than 60 years, recognizing exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness. The coveted Silver Anvil Award distinguishes the very best in PR and allows winners to promote and share best practices.

With the centennial of its School of Drama, CMU had a world-stage opportunity to leverage its landmark anniversary. Long-time agency partner Hornercom secured CMU as the first, exclusive higher education partner of the internationally renowned Tony Awards®. Hornercom’s integrated, collaborative communication strategy resulted in a dramatic increase in brand awareness and a strategic shift in perceptions for CMU. Hornercom’s campaign generated more than 1,000 print, online and broadcast stories, approximately 100,000,000 branded media impressions and more than $5,000,000 in advertising equivalency.

“CMU has been able to develop a partnership with the Tony Awards that does a great deal to champion the cause of arts education worldwide,” said Dan Martin, dean of the College of Fine Arts. “The success of this program has allowed us to engage and inspire the next generation of performers.”

The 2015 Silver Anvil competition received more than 800 entries from across the country. This year’s awards ceremony was held on June 4 at the AXA Equitable Center in New York City.

“We are grateful to Carnegie Mellon—and to our friends at the Tony Awards—for the opportunity to develop and produce this award-winning work,” said agency president, Jack Horner, APR. “It’s an honor to be recognized at the highest level by our peers in the PR industry.”
